Melanite belongs to the group of andradite that includes the most valuable of all garnets; the demantoide, the topazolite and the very rare bredbergite. Melanite is a rare black garnet with high content in titanium very sought after by collectors. Specimens from Mali are probably the largest and most appreciated in the world. |
