Description:
This rarest of species of garnet was discovered in 1969 in a manganese mine in Ouarzazat (Morocco). It always appears associated with manganese. The pseudo octahedral crystals rarely exceed 3 mm. Their colour is such a dark red that they appear to be black. Subsequently another deposit was discovered in South Africa, which is where the best specimens come from. |
