It is one of the minerals that appears as beautiful and well-shaped crystals, much sought after by collectors. Of hydrothermal origin, it appears covering the cracks and cavities of certain metal seams, and in the cracks of certain granites. As a cut and polished gem it can attain good prices due to its pleochroism.
